Plaid has introduced a series of product updates for August 2026, covering open finance, identity verification, credit underwriting, onboarding, and investment data enrichment.
The US-based data network detailed the changes in its monthly product update, outlining new institution coverage, verification tooling, and data-quality improvements across several of its offerings.
Open Finance and integration tools
Fidelity is now supported as an institution across Plaid's Link, /institutions/get, and Dashboard products. Customers can pin Fidelity as a top institution within Link, and those without existing access can request it through the OAuth Institution tab in the Dashboard.
Plaid has also introduced Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for data partners, currently in early access. The feature allows data partners to connect AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and Codex, directly to Plaid in order to investigate and resolve integration issues without logging into the Dashboard or involving an engineer for each fix.
Identity verification and account matching
Plaid has simplified the setup process for Identity Match, its account ownership verification tool, allowing customers to activate recommended rules in a single step while retaining the option to customise thresholds. The company states that Identity Match verifies account ownership with 99.5% matching precision, which it links to a reduction in ACH returns.
Within Identity Verification, the Dashboard's search function now supports cross-template search, letting users search across multiple templates simultaneously rather than one at a time. Moreover, Plaid has also added an option for one-time-passcode delivery by phone call for users unable or unwilling to receive a text message, with the previous SMS code invalidated automatically once a call is requested. The company noted the change addresses accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Credit underwriting and onboarding
Plaid has updated its CHECK_REPORT_FAILED webhook within Consumer Report to include additional fields: error, repairable_items, and failed_products, aimed at giving customers more detail on why a Check report has failed and which elements can be recovered. Documentation on the associated error codes has been published separately.
In onboarding, Plaid's Layer product now supports Signal Transactions Scores. Customers can add Signal as a product within a Layer template through the Dashboard, after which items created from that template are initialised for Signal according to the configured settings, without requiring code changes.
Investment data enrichment
In addition, Plaid has made changes to its Securities enrichment pipeline to better handle identifier changes resulting from corporate actions such as renames, mergers, and delistings. The company reports that more than 95% of holdings returned through its Investments and Investments Move products now include a security name, security type, and at least two identifiers among CUSIP, ISIN, and ticker.
Taken together, the August 2026 updates extend Plaid's institution coverage, add accessibility and search functionality to its verification tools, and improve the granularity of data returned across underwriting and investment products.
