Teya has been selected by the UK Financial Conduct Authority for its Scale-up Unit, providing tailored regulatory support.
The company is one of five UK firms selected to receive dedicated regulatory support intended to help fast-growing, innovative businesses continue expanding within the regulatory framework.
The FCA launched the Scale-up Unit in October 2025 to improve engagement with fast-growing, innovative regulated firms operating in the UK. Teya's cohort is the first group of participants admitted to the Unit's solo-regulated track. This follows an earlier phase in February 2026, when the FCA and the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) jointly accepted six dual-regulated firms into the programme.
Firms selected for the Scale-up Unit are assigned a dedicated point of regulatory contact and receive support across four areas: regulatory processes, product innovation, the impact of new policy proposals, and sector engagement. Moreover, the initiative is designed to give qualifying firms more direct access to the regulator as they scale operations and introduce new products.
Teya's operational scale
Founded in 2019, Teya provides payment and business management services to more than 75.000 local businesses across nine European markets, including over 30.000 in the UK. The company employs approximately 1.500 people. According to Teya, further product development and geographic expansion are planned, and the FCA support is expected to assist the company as it continues to grow both domestically and internationally.
Tom Mylrea-Lowndes, General Counsel & Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs at Teya, said the Scale-up Unit gives the company access to FCA resources and expertise that will support its growth and product development plans, and that the company aims to deepen its engagement with the regulator over the coming period. It was also added that Teya's longer-term ambition is to serve a larger base of local businesses across its markets, with product development guided by merchant needs.
Recent product developments
The FCA selection follows two recent product launches by Teya. The company introduced a Business Account allowing business owners to automate spend management, earn cashback on employee spending, and manage finances through a single application. Teya also launched Teya Pro, a card machine designed to process transactions in under 1.7 seconds.
The Scale-up Unit forms part of the FCA's broader efforts to support the UK's fintech and payments sector as firms in this space grow in scale and regulatory complexity. For Teya, formal engagement with the regulator through a dedicated contact point may provide clearer visibility into policy developments relevant to its expansion plans across the UK and European markets.
