Adyen and Toast have expanded their partnership to support Toast’s payments operations in the US.
The expansion builds on a relationship that began in 2021, when Adyen started supporting Toast’s international scaling across Ireland, the UK, Canada, and Australia.
Toast’s platform combines point-of-sale systems, online ordering, payments processing, and back-of-house operations for its clients. In the twelve months ending 30 June 2026, Toast facilitated more than USD 215 billion in gross payment volume (GPV) across approximately 180.000 locations worldwide. The addition of the US market represents an extension of the existing processing relationship between the two companies into Toast’s largest operating market by location count.
According to Adyen, its platform is designed to reduce the number of integrations required by large-scale platforms such as Toast, while addressing stability and risk considerations that become more significant as businesses expand across several markets. Blake Breathitt, SVP and Global Co-Head of Strategy at Adyen, said that operators in service-based sectors such as restaurants, retail, and hospitality require processing systems that support faster settlement and allow customers to pay using their preferred method, alongside the ability to scale into new markets.
Unified financial technology model
Adyen operates a single, in-house-built platform that combines several financial services, including issuing, capital, and business accounts, within one system. For platform businesses such as Toast, this model creates a basis for offering additional financial products directly within their existing technology stack, rather than through third-party integrations.
Michel Rbeiz, General Manager, Fintech at Toast, said Adyen has been part of how the company delivers processing services across international markets since 2021, and described the US expansion as a continuation of that relationship. Rbeiz added that the arrangement is intended to provide operators with processing stability while they focus on running their businesses.
Context and implications
The expansion comes as Toast continues to scale its platform across a large number of locations globally, with the US representing a substantial share of its total footprint. For Adyen, the deepened relationship with an existing enterprise client illustrates how unified processing and financial services infrastructure can be extended incrementally into new geographies as client businesses grow, rather than requiring separate technology partnerships per market.
