DBS and Stripe have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand cross-border payments and agentic commerce in Asia.
The agreement, formalised through a memorandum of understanding, combines DBS' banking capabilities and regional connectivity with Stripe's programmable financial services, with the stated aim of helping businesses collect, move, and manage funds across multiple markets.
Under the agreement, Stripe will be able to draw on DBS' money movement and cash management solutions to help merchants on its platform collect payments and optimise liquidity and cash positions across its corporate entities. According to the companies, these initiatives are intended to support Stripe's transformation into a full-stack provider of financial infrastructure, alongside its continued expansion across Asia.
DBS, in turn, will explore the use of Stripe's global platform and embedded finance solutions to expand its cross-border network, with the aim of connecting the bank's institutional clients with customers internationally. In addition, the two companies also plan to explore the joint development of agentic AI capabilities intended to allow DBS customers to transact more efficiently and securely.
Agentic commerce and market context
The partnership comes as AI agents take on a growing role in helping consumers and businesses discover products and complete purchases. AI agents are projected to orchestrate up to USD 5 trillion of global consumer commerce by 2030, according to figures cited in the announcement. With this in mind, as adoption of agentic commerce increases, the companies noted that customers will require trusted platforms capable of supporting AI-powered transactions securely and efficiently.
The move also responds to broader growth in cross-border payment flows across the region. Asia's outbound cross-border payments are projected to reach USD 24 trillion by 2033, representing 36% of global outbound flows and almost double the USD 13.5 trillion recorded in 2025, based on data referenced by the companies.
Tan Su Shan, Chief Executive Officer of DBS, said the partnership reflects the bank's commitment to supporting businesses in Asia as they build, scale, and compete in international markets, noting that the region's digital economy is entering a new phase shaped by AI adoption and expanding market reach.
Furthermore, Fran Ryan, Chief Business Officer of Stripe, noted that the company launched in Singapore ten years ago to support the region's earliest internet-based businesses, adding that more than half of Stripe's users in Asia currently sell across borders.
Stripe is a US-based provider of payments and financial infrastructure, while DBS is a Singapore-based bank offering banking, cash management, and cross-border connectivity services to corporate and institutional clients across the region. The companies did not disclose a timeline for the rollout of specific products stemming from the partnership.
