Thunes has partnered with Fiserv to enable real-time international payouts for platforms and marketplaces within Fiserv's merchant ecosystem.
According to the official press release, the partnership targets ecommerce platforms, marketplaces, and other Fiserv clients that need to pay employees, settle bills, or disburse funds to suppliers across multiple markets.
Under the arrangement, Thunes will provide payout infrastructure to Fiserv's merchant services division, connecting Fiserv clients to Thunes' Direct Global Network. According to the companies, this network provides access to 12 billion bank accounts and mobile wallets across more than 140 countries and 90 currencies. The integration is designed to allow Fiserv's merchant customers to initiate international payouts without needing to build or manage separate connections to individual payment rails or banking partners in each market.
Sanjay Saraf, Chief Product Officer at Fiserv Merchant Services, said the collaboration was intended to help merchants move money globally with greater speed, transparency, and predictability as they expand across borders, supporting more scalable international operations.
Positioning in the US market
The partnership also reflects Thunes' continued build-out of its US presence. The company has said it now holds money transmission licenses in all US states where such licensing is required, a step that supports its ability to offer domestically licensed payment services alongside its international network.
Kyle Rosen, Head of Americas at Thunes, said US platforms and marketplaces had historically encountered friction when attempting to pay out globally at scale, and that combining Thunes' licensed US payments capabilities with Fiserv's merchant ecosystem was intended to improve speed and efficiency for businesses pursuing international growth.
Furthermore, Chloé Mayenobe, Deputy CEO at Thunes, said the collaboration was intended to support compliant and efficient cross-border payouts for Fiserv's client base, framing the partnership as part of Thunes' broader work with large fintech and payments companies.
Context for platforms and marketplaces
Cross-border payout functionality has become a relevant capability for platform and marketplace operators managing supplier, seller, and workforce payments in multiple jurisdictions. Through the process of embedding Thunes' network within Fiserv's merchant services offering, the companies aim to reduce the technical and compliance overhead typically associated with setting up international disbursement channels market by market.
The announcement did not disclose financial terms or a specific rollout timeline for when Fiserv merchant customers will gain access to the payout capability.
